Son of the Soil Cultural Festival scheduled for Saturday 23rd February 2013

Bana ba Mmala will host the ninth edition of the Son of the Soil Cultural Festival on Saturday 23rd February 2013 at Masimo Gateway, Rasesa, Kgatleng District, Botswana. The theme for this year’s celebrations is ‘Kgomo’ and will explore the significance of cattle in the traditional Setswana way of life and in the present times.

The former President Sir Ketumile Masire, a renowned farmer by vocation, will deliver a brief lecture on the theme covering the significance of cattle during his presidency and how cattle played a role in the economic development of Botswana.

The 2012 event saw attendance of over seven hundred patrons, amongst them dignitaries from foreign missions based in Botswana, leaders in the corporate world, sponsors and some youth who have a keen interest in Setswana culture. The day will feature patrons participating in preparation and serving on traditional food, Setswana games such as mhele and dibeke, transportation of patrons around venue on donkey cart, dikhwaere, performance of traditional music and dance and recital of dithamalakane.
