European Bee-Eater

Description

The combination of yellow throat, black gorget, turquoise under parts and brown and yellow back combine to make an unmistakeably beautiful bird. The species is common and widespread. 

Voice

The call consists of liquid and melodious trill notes, and can often be heard flying overhead.

Behaviour and habitat

The main arrival of this migrant is in October, with departure in March.  It is highly gregarious with flocks of 20 to 100 birds. It is found in a wide range of woodland and is absent from driest regions. It eats predominantly bees, wasps, flying ants and termites.
