Description
The breeding male is a distinctive bird with very long tail feathers. Male and female non-breeding birds are similar.
Voice
The song is a jumble of sparrow-like chirps.

Behaviour and habitat
It is a fairly common resident which is gregarious and locally nomadic in winter. It prefers dry open acacia or mixed savanna woodland. Food consists mainly of seeds and insects. The Whydah is polygamous, parasitizing the Green-winged Pytillia. |
