As Botswana further develops into a destination of choice, Gaborone City has grown in leaps and bounds and has now proved to be capable of hosting international events. As such in two (2) consecutive years, Botswana was able to host The World's Strongest Man. This is an international, televised competition that is annually hosted in different countries around the world. The event features 30 athletes competing in tests of strength, which are designed to provide a "shared experience" within the television audience by using "everyday" objects that stand out for their size and weight. The World's Strongest Man program is televised in over 70 countries reaching more than 470 million homes.  Broadcast coverage in the US airs on CBSSN and its affiliated networks in foreign countries and territories. The UK Broadcast has a cumulative audience in excess of 10 million viewers. This event was held in Gaborone from May 20th -28th 2017. Previously, the event was held in Kasane.
